Responsible Business
Getting the balance right
With heightened awareness to environmental issues, consumer’s behaviour is driving the responsible business agenda, brand owners, and retailers alike are striving to find the most effective means of balancing bottom line accountability with environmental compliance.
At Cornelius, we understand how vitally important this is and are committed to making the world a better place for future generations, as well as optimising the business environment for all our clients . . . today.
Progressing the development of sustainable products is critical to ensuring we minimise our impact on the environment and forms an integral part of our NPD strategy. We are developing business processes to avoid unnecessary wastage, optimise energy efficiency of our products and minimise any harmful effects on the environment.
Our environmental initiative is under the headline “Elements” and comprises five core components:
Earth: we aim to continually reduce the amount of refuse we send to landfill
Air: we seek alternative refrigerant gases to use within our products & processes ahead of legislative requirements
Fire: we are focused on reducing energy consumption across our community
Water: we’ll help mix water at the point of dispense to minimise distribution costs associated with packaged products
People: we’ll work together in reducing any negative impacts to the environment
We acknowledge our responsibilities as a good citizen
In May 2009, our parent company launched the “IMI Way”, a code of conduct for all employees. This includes a set of values that unite and guide us
- IMI people pursue excellence & deliver results
- IMI people innovate and provide value to our customers
- IMI people act with integrity
For the second year running, our parent company, IMI plc, has been selected as a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which admits only those businesses that achieve top 20% scores on demanding sustainability criteria. Each of the IMI platform businesses are instrumental in achieving this status and it is a clear demonstration of our commitment to delivering sustainability programmes.
The group focus is on four key areas;
- health and safety
- supporting customers’ responsible business priorities
- supply chain risks
- energy efficiency opportunities
In 2009, IMI plc was again included in the FTSE4Good Index. IMI signed up to the United Nations Global Compact in 2006. Maintaining our performance against these demanding standards extends through the whole supply chain. Careful attention is paid to ensuring that we and our suppliers conduct all activities in a sustainable manner.
